December. Unbelievable! If the year wasn’t entirely painless, at least it was quick. A brief survey of the arts battlefield reveals most of the soldiers are still standing and looking surprisingly chipper. The seasonal good cheer must be kicking in. The month offers cause for celebration with awards going to a few deserving sponsors and patrons, some public lectures for those with residual intellectual capacity and, of course, some fantastic exhibitions all over town(s). See the highlights below for a banquet of summer shows and an appetising array of new work to be enjoyed – if not consumed. Why not end a Spartan year with a something indulgent? Pass the Pavlova.
