e-News August 2009

This month, we commence our monthly e-news bringing you highlights of some of the great exhibitions taking place at galleries near you as well as links to other sites and notable events the visual arts community.

Click on the links below to visit exhibitions in Auckland, Wellington, New Plymouth, Christchurch, Sydney and Melbourne.

Audiences around the country enjoyed Luit Beiringa’s, The Man in the hat, a documentary about veteran Wellington dealer, Peter McLeavey, which premiered at the recent International Film Festival. All of the screenings sold out so hopefully its popularity will ensure general release soon.

Congratulations are in order to David Ross on his appointment to the Arts Foundation Board. David is a founding member of the NZ Contemporary Art Trust and has been instrumental in the development of the Auckland Art Fair.

We are also delighted to announce the appointment of Gary Langsford to our own board. His experience and skills as a gallerist will be a great asset to the Trust. He’s a pretty snappy dresser too.

Lastly, and sadly, the art community marks the loss of artist Julian Dashper (1960 – 2009). His final show, a collection of graceful works on paper, can be viewed on line at Hamish McKay Gallery. The Barrs have also put together a thoughtful tribute to him on their blog site.

Art is long, life is short, judgement difficult, opportunity transient. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
