Auckland Art Fair
e-News APRIL 21, 2009

The countdown is on. Just 9 days until Auckland Art Fair 2009’s gala opening…

Join the 500 expected guests, including artists, collectors, actors, curators and those in the know at the Hesketh Henry Vernissage, a fully catered evening of art and entertainment. To add to these festivities, we have man-about-town, Paul Ellis (New Zealand’s Got Talent) acting as MC for the evening and a few surprises in store. If you haven’t booked your tickets yet, what are you waiting for?

Our media campaign is in full swing and the city is festooned with posters, flyers and some stunning billboards. Our viaduct venue is a hive of activity with a team of builders putting the finishing touches on nearly half a kilometre of plastered white walls, and artist Joanna Langford has taken up residence on a scissor lift in the main entry, installing her luminous cloud work.

Trucks are arriving daily with precious cargo of artworks from all over New Zealand and Australia, plus there is a handful of European artists represented in this year’s fair including Dutch photographer Desiree Dolron, Scottish painter Callum Innes, and Sweden-based English-born artist James Aldridge, to name just a few.

I look forward to seeing you on opening night and welcoming you all to Auckland Art Fair 09.

THE Art Fair's got Talent
It takes talent and a sharp suit to front a room full of the best looking art in New Zealand. That’s why we’re happy to announce TV presenter, music industry professional and man-about-town Paul Ellis as our guest MC for Auckland Art Fair’s exclusive gala opening, the Hesketh Henry Vernissage. more
Magical imaginary worlds
Joanna Langford’s cloud installation promises to be one of the hits of AAF09, creating “a zone so physically different that it feels like anything could happen in it.”
Langford, who holds a Masters in Fine Arts from Ilam School of Fine Arts, sets out to heighten viewers’ imagination with improbably delicate suspended sculpture. She has been described as an architect of the imaginary and a conjurer of fantastical worlds. more
Don Thompson almost sold out
You will have to be quick not to miss our keynote speaker Don Thompson, the man who wrote the book about art and business – “The $12M Stuffed Shark.” A review in The Times (London) claimed if you’d read no other book about art in your lifetime, read this one. His keynote lecture, presented by the ANZ Private Bank, takes place on Friday May 1, at the Auckland Art Fair. Tickets from www.iticket.co.nz or 0508 iTICKET (484 253). more
Highlights of AAF09

The high calibre of galleries and artists taking part this year promises to make AAF09 the best and most exciting yet. Where else could you see work by Yvonne Todd, Theo Schoon, Fiona Hall, Bill Hammond, Judy Millar, Francis Upritchard, Daniel Von Sturmer, Angela Brennan, Bill Culbert, Patricia Piccinini and Colin McCahon in one venue? more
