e-News November 2008

The long wait is over for the Walters Prize finalists and Auckland artist Peter Robinson will be packing his bags for an all expenses paid trip to New York next year. Congratulations to Peter and to fellow finalists John Reynolds, Lisa Reihana and Edith Amituanai on their exhibitions and grace under pressure.

There is further cause for celebration in the dealer gallery community. A trip around the galleries in Auckland last week revealed some memorable shows and a very encouraging flourish of red dots. It would seem that the primary market – focused more on collectors than investors – is thriving despite the economic doom and gloom.

This all bodes well for our next fair, 30 April – 3 May 2009, which will feature some of Oceania’s leading galleries and artists, a sculpture court and installations, a public lecture programme and keynote speakers. Details in next month’s e-news.

Have a bright November.
