Art in July

If the recent weather has prompted a sudden and intense desire for travel, then Australia is a great place to head for some serious art viewing. In Sydney, artists from 42 countries have created installations at locations across the city, including the former Industrial site of Cockatoo island, as part of the 16th Sydney Biennale, curated by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev.

If you still have soles left on your shows after that, on 28 July, you can scrub up and join 2500 other guests at the gala opening of the Melbourne Art Fair, a 4 day event featuring over 80 Australian and international galleries. Among the exhibitors, is a strong contingent of NZ galleries including Gow Langsford, Hamish McKay, Jensen, Michael Lett, Page Blackie, Bowen Galleries and Sue Crockford. Representatives of Auckland Art Fair also look forward to attending the fair and showcasing Certain Words Drawn, the exemplary new publication by Auckland Artist, John Reynolds.

If travel isn't on the cards, fortunately, you don’t have to leave home to see international exhibitions. In June, Sue Crockford presented the performance-based work of Berlin artist Christian Jankowski, and this month, Jensen Gallery brings us Tony Oursler, all the way from New York.

Have a wonderful month - wherever you spend it.
