e-News June 2008

Congratulations to all of those acknowledged in the Queen's Birthday Honours, including our own Dayle Mace, who joined the Auckland Art Fair Trust in 2007, and was made a Member of the Order for services to art and the community in this year's honours list.

Across the globe, Art Basel 39 - The 'Olympics of the Art World' - opened on 4 June. An estimated 55,000 visitors will attempt to get their heads around works presented by 300 leading galleries and more 2,000 artists. Two of Auckland's K'Road galleries: Starkwhite and Michael Lett will be presenting projects in Basel at Art Unlimited and Liste.

For those of us remaining in this hemisphere, the 4th annual Auckland Festival of Photography opens with a diverse programme that takes place at galleries and project spaces city-wide. I've highlighted a few of the great exhibitions you can see this month below but please visit the website for full programme listings.

In the heart of the city, Lorne Street has received a much-needed facelift with the opening of Gow Langsford's new space at No. 26. The gallery opened with a very international mix that included the infamous Damien Hirst and is now showing bronzes by Paul Dibble.

Below are a few highlights to help you through until the winter solstice…
