e-News March | April 2008

Welcome to the first Auckland Art Fair e-news.

The Auckland Art Fair was developed to encourage involvement, understanding and appreciation of contemporary art in New Zealand. This bulletin is our way of keeping you in touch with what’s happening in the contemporary art scene between fairs.

Our monthly e-news is designed to give a brief overview of what’s going on at some of the galleries you enjoyed at the last fair and will include news briefs and highlights from a changing selection of leading galleries.

Simply click on the web link to search for more details or refer to the full participating gallery listings to browse current or upcoming shows at your favourite galleries.

Work is well under way towards bringing you the next Auckland Art Fair in May 2009, with an expanded exhibition programme of respected galleries from New Zealand and overseas. I look forward to keepng you up to date with new developments over the coming months.

Gallery gets green light
Redevelopment of the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki can now begin after the Environment Court ruled in favour of the proposed level two daylit gallery. The top-floor gallery is to have a slightly lowered roofline, from 5.2m to 4.3m, which gallery director Chris Saines describes as a workable solution. “ Level two remains an outstanding space for the display and exhibition of contemporary art and (will be) one of the building’s most striking and functional features.” more
