Auckland Art Fair 09, New
Zealand’s premier visual arts event, returns
to Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour from May 1-3
with a select contingent of New Zealand and Australia’s
leading galleries. The third and largest event
to date offers a snapshot of what’s current
in contemporary Trans-Tasman art practice. Artists
and their representing galleries will present
fresh, current work, in the form of 40 solo and
curated exhibitions, a sculpture court and a commissioned
installation, to an estimated 12,000 visitors.
All works are for sale.
The event provides an opportunity for artists
and audiences from both sides of the Tasman to
engage in conversation, side by side. To enhance
the dialogue, our catalogue, published by Random
House NZ as New Art Now, contains a series of
commissioned essays by leading writers and curators.
Our keynote lecture by Don Thompson, author of
‘The $12M Stuffed Shark’ will offer
a global perspective on the curious economics
of contemporary art. A full public programme,
including twice daily public lectures and panel
discussions by a host of local and international
art commentators, guided tours and artist talks,
ensures that Auckland Art Fair will be a site
for exploration, discovery and discussion.
Haere mai. Welcome.
